About Us
Dr. J. William ("Bill") Barnes, II
Dr. J. William (“Bill”) Barnes, II, has been practicing with Drs. Murray, Groves & Barnes since 2002. He is a native of Wheeling, WV, where he graduated from Wheeling Park High School. He then earned Bachelor’s Degrees in Biology and Chemistry at West Virginia Wesleyan College. Upon graduating, Bill moved to Philadelphia, PA, where he attended the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (now Salus University).
While in optometry school, he earned both his Bachelor’s Degree in Optics and his Doctorate of Optometry while completing clinical rotations with Reda Eye Care in Cinnaminson, NJ, and Chester County Eye Care in Westchester, PA. Dr. Barnes’ wife, Emily, whom he met while at Wesleyan, is a Doctor of Nursing Practice and is an Associate Dean of the School of Nursing at WVU in Morgantown, WV. They reside in Fairmont, WV, with their three children. Bill volunteers at their church as a guitar player and vocalist for the praise team.
He also enjoys playing softball, running, hiking West Virginia’s State Parks, and spending time with friends and family. He is a big fan of the Mountaineers and Pittsburgh’s professional sports teams.

Dr. Hallina Portner
Dr. Hallina Portner is a native of Colorado Springs, CO. She moved to Morgantown, WV, in 1997 where she attended grade school and graduated from University High School. She then went on to attend West Virginia University where she majored in Exercise Physiology. While at WVU, she was a member of both the cross country and track teams. Upon graduating magna cum laude and a member of the Honors College, Dr. Portner moved to Memphis, TN, where she attended Southern College of Optometry.
She completed clinical rotations at Piedmont Eye Associates in Charlotte, NC, and at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV. She graduated with her Doctorate of Optometry in 2017, when she joined Drs. Murray, Groves & Barnes. Hallie resides in Morgantown, where she is close to her parents and her sister’s family in Fairmont. She enjoys running, outside activities with her German shepherd pup Berkeley, and spending time with her family and friends. As a WVU alum, she still enjoys cheering on the Mountaineers every weekend.

Dr. Jackie Kronlage
Dr. Jackie Kronlage is a native of Dyersville, Iowa. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at the University of Iowa and then attended the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. Dr. Kronlage completed externships with the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center and Navy Base in North Chicago, IL, and Blue Ridge Eye Associates in Lexington, VA. She graduated in 2014 with a Doctorate of Optometry and joined Murray, Groves & Barnes in 2018. Jackie currently lives in Morgantown with her husband. When not in the office she enjoys traveling, watching sports, and spending time with family and friends.

Dr. Alisha Ferrari
Dr. Alisha Ferrari is a native of Bridgeport, WV. A Bridgeport High School alum, she attended West Virginia University where she majored in Exercise Physiology and was a member of the honors college. After graduation, she moved to Columbus, OH, to attend The Ohio State University College of Optometry. She completed her clinical rotations at the Akron VA in Akron, OH, and Athens Eye Care, in Athens, OH. In 2021, she graduated with her Doctorate of Optometry and joined Drs. Murray, Groves & Barnes. Alisha is glad to be back home living in Bridgeport with her husband. She enjoys traveling, cheering on the Mountaineers, boating on Tygart Lake, and spending time with family and friends.

Dr. Harry “Hank” Murray, III
Dr. Harry “Hank” Murray, III, was born in Clarksburg, WV. He graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1971 and graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. In 1979, he graduated from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. Dr. Hank then began practicing alongside his father, Dr. Harry “Brud” Murray, Jr., who first opened our office in 1949. They were joined a year later by Hank’s childhood friend, Dr. Gregory Groves. Dr. Hank served as President of the West Virginia Optometric Association from 1988-1989.
He served on the Bridgeport Library Board of Trustees and helped lead the library in a fund drive to secure the existing new library building. He is a Bridgeport City Councilman and helped make the Bridge Sports Complex a reality. He has also been a longtime member of the Bridgeport Rotary Club where he served as President in 2005. After 42 years in practice, Hank retired from Drs. Murray, Groves & Barnes in 2021. He enjoys golfing, shooting, traveling, and enjoying time with his wife Sherry and their 3 daughters’ families, including 8 grandchildren.
