Harry Murray III, O.D.
Dr. Harry “Hank” Murray III was born in Clarksburg, WV. He graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1971 and graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. In 1979, he graduated from Southern College of Optometry and Started practicing with his father, Harry M. Murray, Jr. O.D. They practiced together for 25 years. Dr. Murray has served as President of the West Virginia Optometric Association in 1988-1989. He served on the Bridgeport Library Board of Trustees and helped to lead the library in a fund drive to secure the existing new library building. He is also serving on the Bridgeport City Council, currently as City Recorder. He has also been a longtime member of the Bridgeport Rotary club where he also served as President 2005. He is currently on the Burnside Foundation Board of Trustees. Hank has been married to his wife, Sherry since 1975. They have 3 daughters Ashley, Meredith and Julia and 6 grandchildren Presley, Sean, Vaughn, Alex, Carter, and Ryan.
J. William Barnes, O.D.
Dr. William J. Barnes has been an associate of Drs. Murray and Groves since August of 2002. He was born in Wheeling, WV, where he graduated from Wheeling Park High School. He then spent four years earning his Bachelor’s degree in Biology at West Virginia Wesleyan College. Upon graduation, Bill moved to Philadelphia, PA, to attend the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (now part of Salus University). While in optometry school, he earned both his Bachelor’s degree in Optics and his Doctorate in Optometry. Dr. Barnes’ wife, Emily, whom he met while at Wesleyan, is a Doctor of Nursing Practice and is in the employ of the School of Nursing at WVU in Morgantown, WV. They reside in Fairmont, WV, with their three young children. Bill volunteers at their church as a guitar player and vocalist for the praise team. He also enjoys playing softball and golf, biking, and spending time in the yard and at the local parks and pools with his family. He is also a big fan of the Mountaineers and Pittsburgh professional sports teams.
Hallina Portner, O.D.
Dr. Hallina Portner is a native of Colorado Springs, CO. She moved to Morgantown, WV in 1997 where she attended grade school and graduated from University High School. She then went on to attend West Virginia University where she majored in Exercise Physiology. While at WVU, she was a member of both the cross country and track teams. Upon graduating magnum cum laude and a member of the Honor’s College, Dr. Portner moved to Memphis, TN where she attended Southern College of Optometry. She completed extern rotations at Piedmont Eye Associates in Charlotte, NC and the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV. She graduated in 2017 with her Doctorate in Optometry. Dr. Portner resides in Morgantown, where she is close to her parents as well as her sister’s family in Fairmont. She enjoys running, outside activities, and spending time with her family. As a WVU alum she still enjoys cheering on the Mountaineers every weekend.
Jackie Kronlage, O.D.
Dr. Jackie Kronlage, the newest associate to Drs. Murray Murray & Groves, is a native of Dyersville, Iowa. She attended the University of Iowa where she earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She then moved to Memphis, Tennessee to attend the Southern College of Optometry. Dr. Kronlage completed externships with the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center and Navy Base in North Chicago, IL, and Blue Ridge Eye Associates in Lexington, VA. She graduated in 2014 with a Doctorate of Optometry. Since graduation, Dr. Kronlage practiced in Iowa before moving to West Virginia. Dr. Kronlage currently lives in Morgantown with her husband. When not in the office she enjoys traveling, watching sports, and spending time with family and friends.
